Building the Future of Self-Driving and Disability

“ROLLING OUT” the WHEELS 4 ALL BLOG

Unless you live under a rock (which might not be bad in terms of geothermic heating and cooling etc.)  you have heard some of hype surrounding “autonomous vehicles.  A good number of  the cars on the road today already incorporate  Autonomous  features.  Take for example  back up cameras and cruise control.  Many cars have brake assist features and more and more cars  have more and more sensors  everyday.  No one can put a calendar date on this  evolution specially … but

Self-Driving Cars are here already and they are here to stay.

There are websites, youtube video spots, blogs, and all types of articles in all types of print publications  regarding the  wonderful and terrible  nature of  this coming  reality and this blog will cover some of those…..

however…

THIS BLOG IS DEDICATED TO ONE QUESTION

HOW WILL THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY BE MADE  AVAILABLE, ACCESSIBLE, AND AFFORDABLE  FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES?

Transportation options have been a limiting  factor for this part of the amAmerican public and the world’s  population  for far too long and  this CANNOT  happen  anymore.

Manufacturers, Engineers,Vocational Rehabilitation Systems— including administrators  and counselors— must all understand  how to make  this transportation option a reality.  Legislators need to mandate  the physical and economic conditions under which  this does not  once again become an aspect of our infrastructure that creates barriers instead of enabling  people to participate.

So that is what this blog is about… participation in a movement to make  the potential of self-driving vehicles a road to freedom.

In the coming days I will be asking for  readers to join this movement and  will be  providing information and ideas that  people with disabilities can  forward to  all parts of the autonomous  vehicles arena.  Unlike  in so many other  areas access cannot be  a delayed and costly oversight….

It is time to  hit the ground “riding” so to speak… Come and join  this effort.
